Now Is The Time To Start Your Business

Whether you’re in your first year and getting to know the joys of Lancaster or a third year anticipating a barrage of essays now, whilst you’re still a student is the time to start your own business!

Why?

Four main reasons.

Firsty most students have some spare time which if they are not careful will be wasted.  For many first years in particular the amount of free time that they have can be a shock and many will find themselves unsure of what to do with that time.

Secondly other than their degree work most students have few if any commitments.  Few have mortgages, families to support and bills to pay that most other people who are planning to set up their own business have to consider.

Thirdly for many students a job will be necessary to fund themselves through their degree.  Rather than do the usual bar work or retail work setting up your own business will pay extra dividends.  Not only might you have a business to step into upon graduation but you will certainly have some great things to put on your CV.  (For more information on CV writing see What Does Your CV Do?).  For most employers the CV of  a graduate who set up their own business whether it failed or succeeded will stand out (See  How Will You Stand Out?).

Lastly universities these days support student enterprise activities in some fashion.  From business planning workshops to IP advice students now have access to a wide range of support when it comes to developing their ideas and setting up their own businesses.  Create offers Lancaster University students workshops on the business fundamentals, support, (all of it free) and the chance to get start up funds.
