Create Student on BBC North West Tonight

Lancaster University student Olive Su was interviewed by BBC North West Tonight about her painting and her father the famous Chinese artist Zongsheng Su.

Olive who has been helped by Create and Grow Creative to spread the word about her painting and run workshops on it talked about moving to Lancaster, gaining her inspiration from the Lake District and how painting helps with her home sickness.

Student’s Future Unfolds

Rick Cassons, (Msc Engineering) company, Fold, is now set up. He attracted the attention of local entrepreneur Martin Horner and the two of them are now business partners. Fold specialises in environmentally friendly cardboard and polypropylene plastic furniture that be customised to display any design the customer wants. Wayne Hemingway (Red or Dead) has given his support allowing Fold to use some of his designs.

Create Student Launches iPhone Game

Lucas Gordon (Msc Management) recently launched his first iPhone game under his company name Night Leaf Ltd. “Volcanic” is a topical game involving planes and volcanoes. You can currently download it for free as Lucas is using it to market his company and his abilities. ” If people with iPhones could download the game and review it then that would be great. Ive got another two games in the pipeline” he said “so watch this space.”

Do The Red Paperclip Challenge

On July 2005 Kyle MacDonald embarked upon a challenge. He started off with one red paperclip and began to trade up persuading people to swap him larger and more expensive items. On July 12, 2006 he made his last trade and got a house!

Dragons Den Results

At the end of last term four business ideas were presented to the Create Panel (our Friendly Dragons Den).

Rick Casson with his patented cardboard furniture designs.
Adam Dadswell – close up magician
Patrick Durkin with his idea for mens jewellery and accessories
Max Mealing, Alex Mealing, Sascha Knabe, Felix Buchbinder, Eric Maina (one of the largest groups ever to go before the Panel) with their idea of a service to help international students on their arrival to Lancaster University.

Each student had been coached on how to present by Keith Royales, a business man and Lancaster alumnus. This was the first Dragons Den at which there were no powerpoint presentations and all who attended agreed it was the best Panel they had seen.

We cannot say who got what from the Panel but we can say that the Panel awarded the highest amount of money it has ever awarded to a student.

All in all a success.
